What if Facebook was the “Real World”?

Filed under: Technology — Jed @ 7:52 am

The academic blogosphere is a bit tame right now as we are all making our way through finals. This, of course, applies to me. This means hours in the library, scratching away at my papers, and always welcoming a distraction, which I am now sharing with you.

The question for the day: What would life be like if Facebook was actually played out in real life?

The answer (enjoy!):

Coincidentally, this video was posted to my Facebook wall by Raf.

I think the most demeaning social networking process is the begging for the validation of being someones friend. Then on the other side like sometimes you approve people just because you don’t want to deal with being a dick about it. Thats what my myspace account is basically for. All the dumbass losers I never want to talk to, but they are my virtual friends for some reason. A few of these people I would beat if I actually saw them in person.

My only disappointment with the video is that the dude wasn’t asked to take a survey then given all the lame questions about harassing all of his friends to take it and posting a giant sign in his front yard about the survey and if they could also have a copy of your house and car keys.

It’s sad, really, that online social networking allows for deviant behavior that would not be tolerated IRL.

The video is hysterical though. Glad that Facebook at least directed me to your blog.
