{"id":163,"date":"2008-06-17T16:39:44","date_gmt":"2008-06-17T20:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.jedbrubaker.com\/?p=163"},"modified":"2008-06-17T10:54:17","modified_gmt":"2008-06-17T14:54:17","slug":"fiery-and-ugly-animals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.whatknows.com\/blog\/2008\/06\/17\/fiery-and-ugly-animals\/","title":{"rendered":"Move over Firey Foxes and LOLy Cats, here come Ugly Dogs!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>June 17th will be a great day for internet culture, and no, I am not talking about Firefox 3 (although, <a title=\"Spread Firefox \" href=\"http:\/\/www.spreadfirefox.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">go pledge, vote, download, rejoice, etc<\/a>, and do it <em>today <\/em>&#8212; we are trying to set a world record here!).<\/p>\n<p>No, instead I am talking about animals of a less fiery nature: <a title=\"The 2008 World's Ugliest Dog Competition\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sonoma-marinfair.org\/uglydogvote08.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">The 2008 World&#8217;s Ugliest Dog Competition<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When doing my research on LOLCats (<a title=\"wants moar: What do LOLcats and silent film have in common?\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.jedbrubaker.com\/index.php\/2008\/05\/15\/wants-moar\/\" target=\"_self\">see gnovis for the result<\/a>), the topic of the &#8220;anti-LOLcat&#8221; came up often. These are images that mock the nature of LOLcats, and they are quite funny:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"shadowbox\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.jedbrubaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/i_question.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-164\" title=\"Anti-LOLcat\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.jedbrubaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/i_question-235x300.jpg\" alt=\"The Anti-LOLcat tries to make fun of standard LOLcat conventions\" width=\"235\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.whatknows.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/i_question-235x300.jpg 235w, https:\/\/www.whatknows.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/i_question.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 235px) 100vw, 235px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">That said, can they compare with this?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.jedbrubaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/elwood_180.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-165\" title=\"2008 World\\'s Ugliest Dog Contest\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.jedbrubaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/elwood_180.jpg\" alt=\"2008 World\\'s Ugliest Dog Contest\" width=\"180\" height=\"189\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Many people asked me why LOLDogs aren&#8217;t as popular as LOLCats, and I have never had a good answer. This competition, however, sheds a little light. As Steve said, maybe dogs just need their own thing, and that we should start a new trend: the PIMMDog (aka, Puking in My Mouth Dog). This said right after &#8220;How are they alive?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I think my vote is leaning towards &#8220;Elwood.&#8221; He\/She\/It(?) is last year&#8217;s winner, but I think this might be a case of an oldie being a goody&#8230; or something like that.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Today is the last day to vote, so while you are waiting for your 4th copy of Firefox to download, take a walk over and give these puppies some love.
