ARUP Labs has rejected me.

ARUP Labs just sent me the following rejection letter:

Dear Jed,

Thank you for your interest in the Converted Candidates position with us at ARUP Laboratories. As a result of a thorough and comprehensive candidate evaluation process, we have filled this position… Please continue to monitor the job postings at www.aruplab.com as they may change regularly.

Sincerely,
Human Resources

This was confusing. ARUP is known to be one of the best companies for whom one can work, but I applied for this job three and a half years ago. The address in the email was four households ago. Errant database trigger? Or did my application temporarily get caught in an eddy of data management? And what is “converted candidates” anyway?

Well, everyone, it looks like I am not moving back to Salt Lake City. Georgetown will just have to do.

Update (8-28-2007): I received another letter from ARUP today. Apparently I am not going to be an entry level phlebotomist either. Despite my aversion to needles, I was still willing to give it a go. I must have really wanted to work for ARUP.

Just FYI, I received the same email from ARUP tonight, and I’ve never applied for that position.

I’m so sorry you didn’t get the job. I know you’ve been holding out. Don’t worry, Jed. Keep your chin high and something will turn up.

ARUP had an issue while converting to a new system to host the applications the system mistakenly sent out this e-mail to all candidates (including ones that had been offered jobs) in the database when a flag was changed to bring the system on-line. Enjoy Georgetown, the rush hour traffic is worse there than it is on I-15 :-). ARUP is a great company to work for and just FYI they will be hiring several hundred new people over the next year because of expected growth so if you have friends or relatives that live in the valley….

Consider yourself lucky not to be working at ARUP. The deception surrounding this company is amazing. You would only be one more victim if you had been hired. If you like the area, come here, but work somewhere else.

Ms Doe, I am sorry to hear that. I had applied when I still lived in Utah, and had heard really good things about it at the time. Apparently places can change a lot in just a few short years. Either way, best of luck!
